Instead, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 simply has more stuff—a bigger story, more pointless collectibles, sprawling skill trees, and double the Spider-Men. Despite its imperfections and overall lack of side content as well as a rushed third act the gameplay is near perfect in every way possible.
Building on top of the classic web-swinging fun that the previous two games delivered, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 introduces the ability to glide using Web Wings. But they aren’t just a flashy addition from the comics and movies – they entirely change how you navigate around Marvel’s New York. Marvel’s Spider-Man is an action-adventure game released in February 2018 for PS4 and later ported to PS5 and PC platforms. The Spider-Man superhero from Marvel Comics serves as the inspiration for the game, which Insomniac Games and Sony Interactive Entertainment are both publishing. While overseeing a prison transfer with Peter at The Raft, a vengeful Miles fails to stop the Hunters from capturing Martin Li, who previously killed his father, Jefferson Davis. Investigating Kraven, Peter discovers he is hunting super-powered individuals in search of an “equal”. Having already killed Scorpion, Vulture, Shocker, and Electro, Kraven attempts to capture Black Cat. However, Miles helps her escape to Paris by using the mystical Wand of Watoomb.

In its Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 PC blog post, for instance, Sony highlights, “new raytracing options with individual quality settings to finetune performance and fidelity across a broad range of hardware configurations”. There’s also talk of settings for raytraced interiors, shadows, and ambient occlusion – adding what Sony calls “an additional layer of believability with realistic shadows and increased depth to the game”. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s gameplay and its previous iterations, similarly plays like the Arkham series, Assassin’s Creed series, and even Ghost of Tsushima. 777X of combat and exploration are the main aspects of the gameplay. For players with high-performance PCs, High, Very High, and Ultimate Ray Tracing options are available to more finely tune their experience.
